Since
its inception 86 years ago, a successful Oscar night cannot be complete without
the usual red carpet paparazzi of free flowing and supertight Versace gowns to
super high Jimmy Choos pumps, to Harry Winston ice and a Marc Jacobs clutch to
complete the ensemble. It’s the Oscars, therefore dress your best whether nominated,
presenter, performer or awaiting the post Oscar gig.
As
usual Nala Ekenumbo, your favorite fashion blogger provides you with full
details of the Oscar fashion.
Happy
viewing!
Cate
Blanchett in Flesh Colored Armani Gown
Eventual
Lead Actress winner, Cate Blanchett wowed in this flesh colored free flowing Armani
Prive gown with intricate detail work. The Best Actress winner for “Blue
Jasmine,” chose one of her favorite designers for one of the biggest nights of
her career. The heavily embellished dress was also apparently “heavy” to wear,
as Blanchett told E’s Ryan Seacrest. She completed the ensemble with giant
Chopard drop earrings.
Charlize
Theron in Black Dior Couture
Presenter
Charlize Theron looked bold as ever in a black lace curved hugging mermaid gown
with plugging neckline. I love the lower see through part of this master piece.
She completed the ensemble with Harry Winston jewels
and Christian Louboutin shoes, plus matching nails, light makeup and short hair.
Amy
Adams in Midnightblue Gucci Strapless Gown
Presenter
and lead actress nominee Amy Adams didn't take that '70s dressing cue from American Hustle. Instead, she made her
Oscar arrival in a sleek, strapless Gucci Première gown. The custom silk
creation featured a tuxedo-inspired, fitted bodice and a subtle train, all of
which contributed to a curve-flaunting silhouette. Personally, this midnightblue gown looks
great but not wonderful for a potential winner tonight. Tiffany & Co.
earrings contributed to a glitzy finish. Too simple dramatic gown!
Jennifer
Lawerence in Orange Red Dior Couture
Too
simple and dull for a potential record breaker tonight, reigning best actress
and current biggest actress on planet earth. It seemed as if J. Law made an
impromptu Oscar dress selection. Probably she really did. How could such a
simple orange red Dior dress wardrobe malfunction yet again in a dress
resembling that of American Hustle co-star, Amy Adams? She teamed the ensemble
with a simple diamond necklace, which draped down her back, a pair of simple
diamond earrings, a box clutch and super high patent black pumps - proving that
simplicity really is key when it comes to dressing for the red carpet.
Lupita Nyong’o in
LightBlue Voluminous Prada Dress
Wow,
what a floating young “Black Roman” goddess? Oscar debutant and winner Lupita
Nyong’o looked like the night was already hers. She was having the best time of
her young life in a pleated voluminous light blue Grecian inspired dress with
plunging neckline. Unusual accessories could be really thoughtful as she
completed the ensemble with a Fred Leighton diamond halo-like headband over her
short afro hair and 18carat yellow gold and rose cut diamond spiked crescent
earrings making her look like a Black Roman goddess. Great dress indeed and
best dressed nominee.
Sandra Bullock in
Strapless Midnightblue Alexander McQueen Gown
Best
Actress nominee for Gravity, Sandra Bullock wore a gorgeous navy blue strapless
Alexander McQueen gown. I love the double drape wrapping intersection at the
left waist line. Also the dramatic sweetheart neckline and matching fingers
nails. She completed the ensemble with matching diamond ear rings and high
cuffed bangles. Bullock’s sideswept curls completed the sophisticated and
subdued look. After all, she’s nominated for Gravity. Well done Sandie.
Julia Roberts in
Givency
Apart
from that famous 2001 Valentino vintage lucky black nd white dress, Julia
Roberts is hardly one of the best dressed ladies on official red carpet events.
A lover of black outfits, 2014 was no different despite being nominated in the
Supporting Actress category and wearing a French power house. She looked
bereaved like a lady in mourning in her Couture Givenchy design custom lace
gown! Her hair looks odd as well, luckily she has her trademark smile and
daring diamonds to keep it all together!
Anne Hathaway in Backless
Mirror Ball Black Gucci
Presenter
for Best Supporting Actor, Anne Hathaway in one of her sexiest red carpet
appearance opt a custom made black Gucci gown very much in her usual style.
Always choosing non heavy outfits for her red carpet events, she chose a back
split backless black dress with matching heels and clutch. The metallic mirror
styling and short black hair looks amazing and sexy. I love this dress but I
think its seemly simple for an acting category award presenter.
Jada
Pinkett Smith in Peach Versace Gown
No
doubt, Versace is often the most sought after designer in any Hollywood red
carpet event and 2014 Oscars wasn’t an exception. I
haven’t seen ageless Jada looking chic and fabulous than tonight. The soft
peach Versace gown worn by Mrs. Smith was simple, lovely and Grecian inspired.
The high split on the right and carefully twisted halter neck backwards drape
was completely fabulous.
Kate
Hudson in Ivory Atelier Versace Gown.
Presenter
Kate Hudson looked incredible in this silky silver custom Atelier Versace gown
with a liquid-like fit. A red carpet darling, she made history 11 years ago in
a famous yet another Versace gown. The low-dipping neckline and knot right at
the belly button kept things sexy, while structured semi cape shoulders draped
down and around in a backless style. She completed the Grecian inspired gown
with Jimmy Choo sandals and Neil Lane jewelry (a crystal De Roche ring,
10-carat diamond earrings, and a diamond and sapphire bracelet) and a matching
clutch.
Angelina
Jolie in Sequin Elie Saab Gown.
Tired of wearing
Versace to red carpet events, winner and presenter, Angie chose a metallic
sequin long sleeved Elie Saab gown. Decently clad though with some see through
areas. I think the dress made her look beyond 50s for a red carpet darling
still under 40. She looked every bit of an A-list celeb. Like Cate Blanchett,
the silhouette of this dress is similar to the other dresses Angelina has worn
in the past; but nonetheless, this is a silhouette that she pulls off
amazingly. She just seemed so happy and easygoing―smiling, laughing along with
the crowd after all, she’s already sure of a Golden Boy Statue in the Jean
Hershlot Humanitarian Award Category.
Penelope Cruz in Pale
Pink Giambattista Valli Dress
Presenter
Penelope Cruz looked like a Greek goddess, elegant and graceful in her pale
pink Giambattista Valli dress. Her dress looked quite difficult to put on as
the see through right drape was twisted at the back. The contrasting black bow
belt and matching clutch completed the ensemble. She was among the very few
celebrities opting for a hair bun on the 2014 Oscars Red Carpet!
Kristen Bell in
Roberto Cavalli Dress
Kristen
Bell looked like an expectant bride walking down the aisle in a silver white
Roberto Cavalli dress. Kinda looks like a Marchesa gown, the lower part of the
dress must have taken days to make. The matching bustier looks well knotted at
the rear. Kudos to Roberto Cavalli. One of the best dressed tonight!
Pink
looked floating on stage in a free flowing red Elie Saab dress. Her amazing
performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” complemented her red sparkling
dress. The stunning 3/4 length sleeves, plunging neckline, and mixed materials
of the gown was accessorized with Forevermark jewels. But her hair was kind of
a disaster; she should have opted for a more feminine chic hairstyle.
Kerry Washington
in Strapless Violet Jason Wu Gown
This
Mama-to-be dazzled in a violet, satin ultra feminine gown by Jason Wu. The
presenter’s growing baby bump was the “perfect accessory” to her maternity gown
with a sexy slit. This was the first ever red carpet gown designed by the
designer! Washington looked every bit of a Maid of Honor. What a great
hairstyle too.
Lady Gaga in
Atelier Versace
Could
this really be Lady Gaga? That Atelier Versace dress with intricate designs at
the 2014 Oscars was something I felt really ambivalent about. An unusual floor
sweeping matching shawl completed the ensemble. But that blonde hair was a
complete disaster; her hair dresser should have opt a brunette hair. Thanks to
supremacy of the Oscars in fashion statements, as we all know Miss Gaga for her
weird outfits even to musics’ biggest prize, the Grammys.
Jennifer Garner in
Silver Flapper Oscar de la Renta Dress
Jennifer Garner
looked like a typical Academy Award presenter in a silver vintage flapping
dress from Oscar de la Renta. Apart from its silvery color, I think the
costume-like dress was a turn off. A million dollar simile and matching tip toe
shoes improved the ensemble.
